From the
Earth
Tanya Doody Studio is a place to share my material practice and research. My ongoing dedication to sustainable practices in ceramics has led to delving into early clay processes, low-fire techniques, and sourcing local materials in environmentally and socially responsible ways.
I gravitate to clay in all aspects of my practice: the performative, the functional, sculptural, and spiritual. The tactile nature of the material offers a dialogue, back and forth from gesture to material, and from the material back to the sensation of touch. I enjoy the immediacy of the feedback and the reciprocity I have with clay. Clay is a way to feel connected and to ground my practice in a material that is the Earth is fulfilling, powerful and humbling.
Haptic Objects. 2021-ongoing. Ceramic and mixed media.
